Summary of the bi-directional communication capabilities of the print servers and HP DIMM/Flash: The IP Protocol manages the integrity of all data exchanges. It should be noted that in all cases, except with parallel/serial port connections, the IP stack at both the host and print server or printer manages the actual data flow checking and rechecking that the data transmitted or retransmitted is actually received. HP DIMM - IPDS - HP printers do not provide printer status, resulting in no printer status reported to the host. HP CompactFlash - SCS - On/off line (reported as on/off line) - Paper out (reported as paper out) - Paper jam (reported as off line) - Cover open (reported as off line) - Service request (reported as off line) Parallel Port - Printer on/off line (reported as on/off line) - Paper out (reported as paper out) - Data received (host determines what page it is on) - Fault (reported as off line) Gateway via Port 9100 Initially Port 9100 requests status of printer, then turns on unsolicited status - PJL unsolicited status provides: .. Printer on/off line (reported as on/off line) .. Paper out (reported as paper out) .. Paper jam (reported as off line) ..
