If the output is plain and simple text only, the AFP parameter in the device description does not need to be set to *YES.

However, if you want to print overlays, barcodes, graphics, or images, the AFP parameter will need to be set to *YES.

Furthermore, this will more than likely require the AS/400 to have PSF/400 installed. The following link explains how to determine if PSF400 is installed.
