Article #326 - Configuring SMB for Canon Printers
Updated:02-14-2006 - Views: 298
To connect an I-O Gateway Print Server to a Canon imageRUNNER models 330, 400, 550, 600 and 60, SMB protocol must be used.

To setup the I-O product to use SMB, do the following:
1. Using the I-O Configuration Utility, select the desired I-O Gateway Print Server.
2. Select the TCP/IP tab and fill it in appropriately.
3. Select the Gateway tab.
4. On the Session 1 section, select the SMB radio button.
5. Click on the Session 1 Configuration Button.
6. Enter the IP address of the Canon printer in the IP address field. If you know the NetBios name and have a WINS server in your network, then you may use the NetBios name instead. Otherwise, leave the Printer's Server Name field blank.
7. In the Share Name field, enter "Print". Note: You must enter "Print" - it is a hard coded name that Canon placed in their SMB/NetBIOS configuration.
8. Click OK to be returned to the Gateway tab.
9. In the SMB Options for Print Server section near the bottom of the window, enter in the Print Server NetBios Name field a unique name for the I-O Gateway Print Server. This name will only be used by the SMB protocol as it communicates between the I-O Gateway Print Server and the Canon printer.
10. If you used the NetBios name of the Canon printer in step 6 above, you will need to enter the IP address of the WINS server here. Otherwise, leave this field blank.
11. Make any other changes to the I-O Gateway Print Server configuration as needed, then click the OK button, and restart the I-O Gateway Print Server.
