Article #34 - HP 8000 firmware level for 3235 DIMM printing
Updated:02-18-2006 - Views: 702
What version of firmware does my HP 8000 printer need to have in order to print from an IO 3235-010 DIMM?

The printer must have a firmware version of 4.48 or newer in order to function properly.

*** Note ***
As of 12 Oct 05, the 3235-010 DIMM has been discontinuted.
IBM host connectivity for printers previously supported by this DIMM (4050, 8000, 8100, 8150) will be provided through the use of I-O's external print servers.

The external print servers provide several advantages over the DIMM including:

-current IPDS and SCS firmware,
-field upgradeability as new firmware is released eliminating the
need to exchange DIMMs,
-faster through put,
-scalability in that the interface can be moved from the printer
when it is replaced by a new printer,
-out of sight location for gateway models which gives the user
the feeling of everything under the covers,
-elimination of hassle trying to locate discontinued JetDirect
cards.
