Custom IEEE 1284 Parallel Port LAN Connection

Network enable devices that are capable of responding to status requests over their IEEE 1284 bi-directional ports thus enabling them to function the same as an RS232 serial port network enabled connection. Interfaces can be created to meet your requirements. Many modern printers can print with input to their parallel port but they will also respond over their 1284 port when requested with a full listing of their status including any operational problems that they have experienced. This information retrieved over a LAN connection would enable preventative maintenance to be accomplished before a printer experiences a failure in a critical application.
